@derivative, you are 100% correct. And I looked at this, but this solution is (I felt) a 'compromise'.

The functionality of the FBML version (when you also use the correct facebook meta tags - coupled with a facebook 'recommend box' to encourage users to see what other people are recommending) is fantastic for a publisher. It really pushes your brand and posts out to other facebook users who in turn spread the 'word'.

When a visitor clicks on the 'recommend' button, and it is the fully functioning FBML version (with the bells and whistles) it is of a great benefit; while to me the iFrame version is far less useful, less intuitively social and provides less visitor data feedback to analyse, although, yes, it is still of value ....

The solution I suggested allows you to have the fully functioning XFBL version running rather than the 'comparatively' less useful iFrame version.
