When I had image ads enabled, I got a lot more junk ads.

I don't care whether or not they pay more. I'm not going to degrade my site for the sake of a few more dollars a month. Long-term site viability and popularity with my visitors is more important short-term profit.

Although.... that was before we had category exclusions. Maybe I should give image ads another try.
