I've been seeing the leaderboard on a major site I watch (not mine) for several weeks at least. I guess it was in beta with them, and I didn't think the ads looked as juicy. I used to be impressed by how tempted I was to click on the ads, but the new format was easily resistable.
Now the leaderboard is on one of my sites. And, um, well, it's not as tasty. But maybe that's the goal - it has even less of an appearance of "being" the site, and is way more obviously (and lopsidishly) advertisement. Which could do good things for the eCPM, if I got any traffic on that site, but I don't, it's too new, so I may never know the difference.
