In my experience having one site and relying on that one site for adsense income may not be the best idea.
My first real site started making over 1k/month about 11 months into it. It still makes decent money three years later but it is up and down kinda like the stock market.
If your going to go with one site go big or make different sites with quality content. I have learned to go for the low hanging fruit after building several larger sites in competitive areas. I have smaller sites that make just as much money as the big ones, and took half the time, money and effort.
You will get better over time. In my case a lot of time, money and hours learning what works and does not.
Lame Wolf pretty much summed it up, except I dont have a passion for any of the subjects of my sites, I hire writers that have a passion to get paid for good content. My passion is to make lots of money online :)
