I have worked for a few different retail companies over the last few years, and every single one that was a plc quietly adjusted prices on bread & butter lines in the last quarter (or pulled established offers) to beef up the bottom line. Seek new cheese.
I think it is entirely plausible that Google, like any other business, will seek to maximise it's profits going into the year end.
