Following on from my earlier post, I just saw them on one of our sites and I have to admit that they are growing on me. They actually look better than what we had before on this one site, but it's too early to say whether they will result in a greater CTR.

Thing is Google HAVE tested themed ads and must surely think they have merit to roll this out.

So on second thoughts, I will run them on "suitable" sites only and see how things go.

It is difficult to test at this time of year though.
