If they have JavaScript disabled, the end user would load a blank screen. It won't block bots using their service but the headers have a tell that makes HMA easy enough to block. They also list the server IPs that they use for their free service in the HTML source on the home page.

Also, there are a small number of stealthy JavaScript capable spam bots crawling the web now. I pulled the pants off of a Chinese one the other day. The owner was not too pleased.
