The AP's article that has been picked up by Businessweek gives it a title "Google's 2Q earnings rise as clicks on ads soar".

The article attributes higher CTR to Google's intelligence of figuring out what people want and showing the ads "in a way more appealing to the users".

It is obvious just to anyone, that clicks soar because Google is flooding SERPs with ads to the extent never seen before. Many many searches show almost ads-only above the page fold with all the organic results pushed far down the page.

Any chance journalists covering Google will get a brain, or they just continue rephrasing Google's press releases and PR department pitches.
