My feeling exactly.
The fact that Google is, according to Singhal, getting more queries indicates that users may not be getting the answers they want and have to resort to more queries.
More of my own Google searches than not, result in poor serps. Could people be re-searching until they get their queries right? If so, yeah, they're doing more search queries and interaction is "better".
An alternative search engine just isn't top of mind for more people--especially in Europe.
