So the key is to know where I am, what language I speak etc. Giving this information away is being used to try and get into my wallet so forgive me if i'm less than thrilled.

Right on! The web should be completely free of advertising, especially targeted ads.

On the down side, I suspect we'd see a lot of websites close up almost overnight. I know I wouldn't be spending hours each day conducting research, and trying to figure out something no one has ever figured out before if I wasn't getting paid to do it.
