I know you all laugh at Google for trying to do this, but the reality is they have to do something. They won't be king of search forever, they're getting more competition with their cash cows Adsense/Adwords(and who knows how long ads will last?), they're losing people to closed in areas like Facebook...things change.

No matter what you do, you have to evolve as a company or you WILL be left behind. Please name a successful company that hasn't changed something over a 10 year span. I will agree they're attacking the problem incorrectly but they do need to attack it regardless.
