Am I right to assume that the major networks have proprietary solutions to semi-automate this process currently? It could be as simple as the content producers tagging their videos with keywords, demographic or otherwise, which when dumped into a system with other variables would let media buyers construct a campaign.
or is this level of automation an actual shift forwards in the industry? I really don't know, I've never bought on-air ad time, much less on a major network.
