I work for a small ppc management firm btw. You can get a company to setup the accounts and do the keyword research fairly inexpensively. I would at least talk to a few companies about it and grill them on what they will do for you. That way you can learn what they are going to do and do it yourself.

It really depends on your budget. If you are new I would only start out with 10 keywords and learn that way. You dont want to throw up 10k keywords and have to learn on that scale.
