Brush strokes? Oh, puh-leeze. Isn't the difference between "drawn" and "lettered" characters explained around page two of any typography textbook or calligraphy manual?
Presumably page one (which may have been missing) would have explained that western typography is founded upon classical Roman inscriptions, generally recognised to have been drawn with... um... brush strokes.
Brush strokes are cool (as are those made with nibs and chisels).
