though having seen a link to the page I see it is quirksmode (IE5 rendering) if you continue to run across things that don't quite work as expected this could be a reason why..
your present Doctype, trigger Quirks rendering
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
you can re-trigger a standards rendering mode by changing to a compliant Doctype like:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
or even the much neater new one
