colour=red, but in ff it is visually a dirty red/gray mix, winSafari and ie the browser default gray and grey-ish, and only Op is really red

Yes, when I do something that involves judgment calls on the browser's part such as "outset" or "ridge" borders, the exact color range varies. Somewhere in the middle must be the actual color specified, but the lighter and darker elements aren't identical. (Obvious analogy to border size, where thin is always < thick, but exact pixel measure is up to the browser unless you give a number.)

Hmm, I should take screen shots and then take a closer look in graphics program. This kind of thing is potentially useful to know.
