If I understand your question then I would recommend that having AdWords is valuable regardless of where you show up for a single search term.

Keep in mind that people search in different ways and by killing an AdWord you may be missing out on some valuable impressions.

Also a certain percentage of searchers will choose AdWords over the regular listings.
