Good to see.. guys with improved QS participate.. Just shows that things can and do change.

The change can be at Google's end or our end. It is the end result that matters.

I agree that chages made by me on my site may not have directly resulted in improved QS, but I seem to be out of the VERY LOW QS kind of a situation, which is heartening. I did try to improve 'user experience' as I understood it to be and I think I saw postive results.
