If everything does in fact return back to normal later today, wouldn't it have been easy for Google to post a one line announcement stating that pagerank may be down for maintenance over the weekend? That's all that would've been required to curb wild speculation. It seems like a lot of hostility and animosity unleashed at Google this weekend could have been easily avoided.
