Aside from just writing content blindly, I would like some help in figuring out how to determine what the best keywords for my site would be to improve my index page, which doesn't have any particular specific content on it. I know how to use the google adwords keyword tool, but after that I get confused. Should I be trying to use the keywords with the highest search volumes and lowest competitors even if it is for organic search? Or do should I be targeting just the highest search result keywords regardless of competition? How many keywords should a person try to use to rank well on SERPs per page? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I run a website about a popular consumer product. The competition for keywords is high and expensive. My best bet is to work on my organic rankings to drive traffic. I currently rank on the 1st page for several of my website pages, but I am having a hard time determining what keywords played a role in getting me there. The pages that I am ranked first on in SERPs are individual prodcut review pages, so I can only assume that these pages are ranked well because of their specific nature.
