Now, here's my question - I a re-writing much of this content to lower the keyword density to a normal, human-friendly level, and yet when I use a density checker to analyze the pages, I am still seeing some words come in at over 15%. The reason is that we have a lot of navigation with links worded "blue widgets," "green widgets," "read widgets," "baby widgets," etc. That, grouped with our meta keywords (which are not excessive) are keeping our keyword density at a level that concerns me. Should I be concerned about re-wording the navigation links? Is it likely that I will be flagged as a keyword stuffer even with all of my efforts to play nice?
We have a lot of older content on our site that could be considered keyword stuffing due to overuse of the keywords. We're not doing anything too nasty like hidden text, just repeating the phrases to the point that the content sounds a little akward when read aloud. The pages are indexed in Google, but they don't rank well. We don't have many links in to them either, so I can't be certain that the reason they're not ranking well is due to keyword overuse.
