The first site where I used SOC had the traditional "inverted L" structure, flush left, and it was so easy to use aboulte positioning and place the content at the top of the <body>. Next was a centered layout, and it took almost no change to do the same thing. The client in this case had used all graphic images - and their marketing dept would not budge. But they finally gave me the concession of using some text content below the fold. I just used SOC on that content, and the rest is happy history.
Still can't think of a downside - but I did think of another plus. With source ordered content you can get a nicer first screen on a small screen browser, such as a mobile phone or handheld. This advantage may fade away in the coming era of full-fledged browser phones, such as the iPhone, but for a few years now, it's been an additional advantage.
