articles that are already published multiple times all over the internet is worse

Does big G or the others SE have ways to detect WHO is the original creator of the content when the same article is everywhere? I think (hope) there is, as I've seen people stealing my content from time to time, just a copy paste and there you go!

If somebody can tell just by looking at the same article on two sites, does that hurt us? on SE? or do SE say "naaa this is the creator, the others deserve the punishment".
