The tablet could be a touch-screen device that resembles a larger iPhone or iPod touch, and could cost anywhere from $500 to $1,000, analysts have said. There is a 50 percent chance that Apple will announce the tablet in January, with a shipping date by the end of March, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster said in a research note on Wednesday. Also, this: The Amazon Kindles, Barnes and Noble Nooks, and the other e-readers have all left me cold. But, if they could get it right, I'd get one and use it every day. (I'd get two, one for my wife and one for me.)
On Wednesday, the Financial Times reported on its blog that the company has rented a stage at a venue in San Francisco and will make a "major product announcement" on Jan. 26....

It came out last summer that Jobs was intimately involved with every detail of bringing the tablet to market. It seems that the device has finally gotten Jobs's seal of approval: when asked if the tablet rumors were true, a senior Apple executive gave The New York Times a rather coy reply. "I can't really say anything," he said, "but, let's just say Steve is extremely happy with the new tablet."
