Agreed. If you want your site to rank well, it has to DESERVE to rank well.

What's better about your site than the ones that are currently beating it in the SERPS? Right now, probably nothing.

If your site provides information, then provide the best information possible, in quantity and quality, and make it super-easy to read and to navigate.

If your site is retail, then be the best store in your industry. Offer either the best prices, the best service, the best selection, the easiest checkout, the most information about the products, or preferably some combination of the above.

Don't expect to rank well until you deserve to.
