I'm not an ASP.NET guru, but I believe those *view controls you mentioned are containers for other controls. They would not be used to collect data as you mentioned. If you want to collect data, what you mentioned sounds reasonable in my opinion. Whether or not it's the best solution, I couldn't tell you.
