...I use FrontPage 2000, find it to be an effective HTML editor. From what I can see, it has very similar HTML functionality to Dreamweaver, and versions after FP98 don't mess with your custom code & JavaScript. I wouldn't dream of trying to get a Dreamweaver pro to try to switch, but for someone just starting out I think FrontPage 2000 deserves a try. Sure, there are lots of "whistles and bells" (like auto counters or its messageboard wizard) that require that your server have the FrontPage extensions installed, but most people can develop and manage substantial sites using FrontPage, just publishing them as they would Dreamweaver.
I'm sure I'll get holy heck for this but...
