You are correct.

Perhaps something along the lines of Microsoft Live Writer might work. It can handle almost any blog service - Windows Live, Wordpress, Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, and others. I wonder if it would work with yours. I've never used it, but it's a download and works client side.
