We would like to take a portion of our standard site designed for a desktop to a mobile version?

We don't want to re-invent the wheel or all of the content, so does anyone have any ideas/experience on a type of software which will do this?

Oh, how to test if it's a PC or mobile/tablet/iPhone/etc.?
