I was invited by Amazon to submit my app a few months ago when it was invitation only.
This portal will streamline the process and open it to more people. Amazon likes to test and approve all apps. This took about 3 weeks for mine.
I think there are some unknowns with the Amazon marketplace. Alternative Android stores are a drop in the bucket compared to Android Market right now.
Amazon could do a lot better with the presentation in the Market than Google is doing now. But even if their store is much better, the vast majority of people will use whatever store is on their phone.
It is unknown what devices the Amazon App store will be on. There are many tablets that are not Google Approved and therefore wouldn't have an official Android Market.
Amazon is silent about what their own Android Kindle device will be like.
Because of these unknowns, I'm pursuing the listing in Amazon as a branding opportunity. If I get many sales will depend on whether the device is small form factor and has a GPS.
