At first I thought kindle was all about selling the physical device, knowing the user was then tied into the service. When it became available for the iPhone this would have allowed amazon to know a little bit about the buying power of apple users. Perhaps this was enough to make them very weary of the ipad. Getting kindle on as many smart devices as possible may now be the goal.
