A good source of free photographic images are the websites of national (Federal? - I'm in the UK) government departments in the USA. If you have a good search on their sites you will find there is usually a photo library tucked away somewhere. Invariably images (often supplied high and low res) are for non-commercial use and (quite rightly) require a credit be given. The point is, they are free.
