I know for a fact that a laptop can be had (3rd gen i5/16 GB ram, 4 USB 2.0 ports/2 USB 3.0) for half the price with more or less the same specs.

Any tips ?

I have a Dell Studio xps since 2009
and allthough its not a "bomb" it works very good and regular
I run it on dual boot Win7 and Ubuntu 11.4
Unfortunately its not possible to get the driver for the HD Radeon card working on Deb/Wheezy
It seems that AMD has not got around to it.
So my concern is getting a lap top that will have a graphic card compatible..
