I tried quanta and bluefish when I first started looking at ubuntu as a serious work platform. I forget which way around it was but one crashed regularly and the other was far too slow when editing large files. Kate turned out to be the answer for me.

I haven't tried komodo - can't recall seeing it in my startup days. :)
