There are some other options:

Quanta (I used to use this, like all KDE apps has excellent support for editing files on remote servers, same editor component as Kate)
Bluefish (never used it myself)
Komodo Edit (what I use at the moment, OK support for editing files on remote servers, excellent syntax checking and auto-complete, very extensible)

Then there are all the text editors available for Linux. There are a LOT and someone will swear by each one.
