I used to use html-kit on Windows. When I started using Ubuntu I tried a variety of code editors before following a suggestion in this forum and switching to Kate. This works well with one caveat:

My code is ASP and hosted locally on a Windows server. In order to access the sites' code on this server I have to use SMB4K to register the shares. Minor problem and once done it works fine. (I also have to use SMB4K to register shares for the backup tool I use so Kate is not the only tool that has issues with shares.)
