I appreciate the reply, but that was not the problem as other parts compiled ok. Basically I just reinstalled the os and just going to run it as is for now. This is just a development platform and will not be visible to the world. I was just wasting my time and need to get back to writing code instead of playing with the platform.

Basically I just wanted to update perl to play with some of the newer code and has nothing to do with the project I need to focus on... just needed something else to do for a short while as my brain was turning into scrambled eggs... lol
