littleman - I read that post you linked to...and have flagged it for future reference. It is a wonderful read and will definitely help out.

Both of you suggest going with a standalone (or dual boot) system. That's what I'll probably end up doing. Just thought the prospect of getting a feel for Linux w/o having to actually install/configure it was worth a look.
