imo it's well worth paying for a few Fast pages and using different densities, page title structures, metas, etc., just for research purposes. We can never know what the future holds and it pays to be prepared, it could pay off in the long run.

I've got a client site we'll be doing just like that, with full explanation that it's not for traffic right now, it'll be a long term investment. We have the index page in sitting at #15, but can't touch it, since we can't tamper with our Google rankings. We'll just do a couple more for very specific, targeted secondary phrases, since the main keyword phrases are fairly competitive.

When someone is in it for the long haul they'll accept it very gracefully and interpret it to mean that you're being honest with them and taking an active interest in their long-range marketing objectives.

We'll do these with PT because we want the data they provide.
