I think there are a few different use cases we talk about:
1. Google analytics inside your chrome extension to track visits, page views, events etc inside your chrome extension
2. Google analytics inside your webstore listing to track visitors, traffic source, installations etc from your webstore listing
3. Stats from google developer dashboard
So if You want to use 2 you have to add your GA ID to your webstore listing and NOT to your extension.
