Have you looked on the WebTrends support site?

I found this, for starters. It seems pretty clear to me that this is your choice, period. Restarting IIS not not a big deal. On the other hand, writing ISAPI plugins are not a big deal either. What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Just the handling of POSTs?

The KB says:

Problem: Post Plug in always shows as a red down arrow in IIS 6

The Webtrends Post Plugin requires IIS 6 to run in IIS 5.0 Isolation mode.

To configure IIS 6 to run in IIS 5.0 Isolation mode, follow the below instructions:

Right-click the "Web Sites" folder, click Properties

Select the "Service" tab.

Under “Isolation mode, put a check box in "Run WWW service in IIS 5.0 Isolation Mode"

Restart IIS
