I use Fireworks and have Oversampling, Sharpening and Strength options, does Photoshop provide those? Depending on the background the text is sitting against, I'm able to fiddle with those numbers and get satisfactory results when anti-aliasing text.

I do know what you mean about the fuzziness. The default anti-aliasing settings are usually not sufficient.
