Verdana is usally a good font for small size work (that's available on Windows systems)... expecially if you turn anti-aliasing off.

I've had fairly good luck with Arial (anti-aliased), but generally, at *small* sizes, most fonts end up looking fuzzy if you try to anti-alias them at al.
