Or perhaps it would improve the quality of the ODP? The massive importance of the ODP with regard to Google has probably caused a large influx of dubious editors seeking to promote their own sites. Perhaps if Google dropped the ODP, then it would no longer have as much appeal to those self-promotion experts, and we would be left with only those editors genuinely wanting to improve the directory. Maybe.

The ODP was around a long time before it was picked up by Google and I don't think that it will make or break the directory, whatever Google decides to do.
