If I may venture a guess, one might conclude that while Google dominates the pure mechanical algorithm-based catalog of cyberSpace, Yahoo! aims to carve out its niche in the human-edited, wiki, folksonomy/tagging approach, which is its vague plan for how to distinguish itself from Google...and even if they do manage to totally dominate that kind of approach, Google's approach is still going to be more effective. But I'm just blathering here, mind you, pure conjecture.
