Crobb,

I was editing my post while you were posting, so let me respond one more time, and then I will leave you alone - Maybe my communication is lacking.

I run a number of sites in a niche. I do not overlap information and do not duplicate my content. Some of these sites are built to rank. Some of the sites are built to be read by users. The sites to be read by users break many of the SEO rules, but rank for highly specific terms, so they only get *very* targeted traffic and then provide a large amount of useful content to the user that was looking for the information.

On these sites I do not check for the ranking of the site I am linking to, nor do I worry about placement, etc. - Here is where I do some things backwards to most - I then link from the site that ranks to the specific content site and allow the targeted SE traffic and the traffic from an SEO'd site provide the traffic. This keeps me from having to avoid linking to good information from a main site, because of a bad neighbor - my site built for the visitor provides a 'buffer' between the SEO'd site and the poor rankings of some bad neighbors, but I can still offer a fully information site to my visitors.

I guess my point is there are times/sites where it is OK to not think about the SE's, because not all sites are designed to rank for broad high-traffic terms. Added: That's why I was asking the question.

Hope this makes sense.

Have a good day.

Justin
