After taking a better look at the link posted by RustyBrick, I'm thinking that perhaps Yahoo plan to add some form of Adsense vehicle running off this. Advertisers could opt into the "content" network just as Adwords members can, and these ads would be displayed on 3rd party sites.

The reason I'm thinking that is the site they have approached me over is a destination information site (3 countries only) and we don't sell deals etc, though I'd say we'd be a good portal for Yahoo to push their deals onto.

What is more interesting is that Yahoo lists the ad rates in the Travel Submit pages as being:

Air$ 0.32
Car Rental$ 0.42
Cruises$ 0.57
Destination > Attractions/Activities$ 0.20
Destination > Events$ 0.20
Lodging$ 0.47
Rail, Ground Transport, and Ferry$ 0.42
Vacation Packages$ 0.57
Vacation Rentals$ 0.57

Now even if they offered a split above what Google (may) pay with Adsense -- let's say 70% -- that still compares rather poorly to similar earnings through Google.

Of course I could be right off in why they approached me - wait and see I guess.
