There logic is that since the directory doesnt work by rankings the above mentioned techniques dont matter in the directory. However personally i scratch my head like you. The number of sites affected is huge and thats in month one. An appeal process is unsustainable even if they were serious about it. I believe over time they will be forced to go to a filter only approach except for serious spamming as Google do now. My fear is that even when that happens all of us will be left with sites that wil never be allowed into the serps.

btw. Link programs are the same as link farms? ontopic link exchanges bring in traffic. And they ban you for life for that.

im sorry but i also dont understand the point in saying youve violated one of our guidlines but we wont tell you which one because then you could game us. I dont get that at all. Think about it, youre saying yes its ONE of thse below but telling you WHICH one would badly compromise us.
