basically the folks at Hotbot discovered that few people knew what Teoma, Inktomi, and Alltheweb were. Most of the same people knew what Hotbot, Ask, and Lycos are and thus they found the psychological impact of changing would be a great idea.

Of course any change generates media, which is a good thing!
