In my experience I've found RSS feeds to be a great way to share content allowing others to monitor my site and copy it. That's the sad thing but you can tweak your RSS and even block some content to others.
As your question about SEO, I studied for hours, days and weeks the use of RSS on my sites to implement "RSS pings" such as WP does. I was curious about how to get "almost instant indexing" such as WP. My tests showed that the -ping- actually triggers bots to search for your RSS feed.
So in short, I now update my sites, then make a rss ping using Pingomatic and withing seconds the search results show the effect on my homepage listing, then a few seconds later the new page is added. Is not magic, it actually requires some time as the bots keep you on a sandbox and later when you kinda win their trust they begin indexing really fast. You should keep your updating frequency.
